Breed Specific Instructions (BSI) regarding exaggerations in pedigree dogs

Dear FCI Members and Contract Partners
Dear FCI-NCO Judges

Needless to say that the FCI and the world of pedigree dogs is a favourite target or extreme animal welfare organisations and some politicians.

In our attempt to act proactively and efficiently, to protect our precious gene pool and to keep it healthy and secure its well-being, the FCI General Committee, upon the very kind offer of the FCI Europe Section and more particularly the Nordic Kennel Union, officially adopted the Breed Specific Instructions regarding exaggerations in pedigree dogs

These instructions should serve as a major tool at the disposal of the judges to make sure that only healthy and balanced dogs are awarded a title and that the future of pedigree dog breeding is secured.

We heartfully recommend our NCOs to

  • make an extensive use of the Instructions,
  • inform their judges officiating at their  shows, and
  • offer the possibility to any pedigree dog lover (be it owners, breeders, judges or other stakeholders) to get familiar with the BSI through a large-scale information campaign.  It is essential to proudly show the authorities and any decision-making body our commitment towards healthy and balanced pedigree dogs.

We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Best regards,

Dr Tamás JAKKEL Yves De Clercq
