Between August 25th and 28th, 2016, the Asociatia Chinologica Romana – A.Ch.R. (Romanian Kennel Club) through Centrul National de Educare Canina (National Centre for Canine Education) was the host of the biggest F.C.I. world dog event for rescue dogs by organizing in Craiova, for the first time in Eastern Europe the FCI World Championship for Rescue Dog Teams 2016.
This edition rounded up 22 teams (over 100 dogs) from Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan (Champion of Asia), Sweden, Hungary and Romania.
The FCI World Championship had 4 sections: Area search, rubble search, tracking and Top. The most difficult one is the Top section because the registered teams need to be in all rescue sections.
There were both civil and military teams with a wide variety of breeds: Deutscher Schäferhund, Chien de Berger Belge (Malinois and Tervueren), Australian Shepherd, Border Collie, Beauceron, Hovawart, Riesenschnauzer, Schnauzer, Jack Russel Terrier, Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Flat Coated Retriever, Deutsch Kurzhaar. Training and participation levels were very high having in view that on this 2016 edition in Romania there were four World Champion teams and two World Vice-Champion teams.
The official opening of the Championship was held in the Old City Centre of Craiova (not on a stadium as on previous editions), an event attended by over 2000 people. It was a night show, with lights and music, and 22 vintage and collection motorcycles accompanied all the teams. To the official opening there attended the members of the F.C.I. Rescue Dogs Commission, the six judges, local officials, country? officials, representatives of the Internal Affairs Ministry and E.U. representatives on disaster and humanitarian issues.
The event was held simultaneously, on all grounds, between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. under the strict judging of: Detlef Kühn (Germany), Walter Hoffmann (Germany), Alois Russegger (Austria), Peter Reding (Switzerland), Patrick Vilardry (France) and Anatolii Trubchaninov (Ukraine).
The prizing and closing ceremony took place on the modern stadium of the Carcea Cultural Sports Centre.
